Beyond Behaviour: Understanding Distress & Hormones

Emotional well-being, distress behaviour and self-care tasks like eating and sleeping all tend to be at the top of concerns that we have for our young people. And to be honest, for ourselves as well.

While we often see and address these areas as separate, this webinar will have us learn how they are all inter-connected via the stress response system. We’ll be taking a bit of a deep dive into the nervous system and stress hormones. Think Mrs. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus shrunk down and following what happens when someone’s stress response system is activated.

Come along for the ride through seeing how the stress response system creates what is called a ‘cascade’ or ‘concert’ of chemical and physical reactions that result in someone having emotional overwhelm, distress behaviour and challenges with self-care. We’ll round out our scientific adventure by solidifying our priorities of care and what that looks like for you and your young person. My hope is that the information gained from the webinar will help you feel more confident with in-the-moment and ongoing decision making. In particular, we’ll conclude together why slow and gentle approaches with our kiddos really are the way forward.
