Communication Matters (CM) is a UK-wide charity committed to supporting people of all ages who find talking difficult because they have little or no clear speech. This can be via paper based communication supports or computer based voice output, we call this AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). Communication can be compromised across many conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Brain Injury, Learning Difficulties and Autism. We have an associate membership of around 400 people. Members come from across the UK and from all the various interests in AAC – personal experience, professional, commercial and research. Members receive copies of our Journal which is published 3 times a year, amongst other benefits. We hold a number of events: most notably our International AAC Conference held over 2.5 days at the University of Leeds each September, as well as UK-wide AAC Information Days (product demonstration days) and Study Days which focus on a particular topic of AAC. We also have many online resources and publications and an AAC Forum. If you are interested in finding out more, please do not hesitate to contact us.

The Local Offer includes information on all services and support for health, education and social care for children and young people with additional needs aged 0-25 years of age and the practitioners who work with them. Every 30 minutes, a child or young person will acquire a brain injury. This could be the result of an accident, an illness such as meningitis or encephalitis, a poisoning, a stroke or a brain tumour. A brain injury has a devastating and life-long impact on the child and their whole family. Bones can mend and scars can heal but a brain injury stays with you for life and impacts on everything you think, feel and do. The Child Brain Injury Trust is the charity that supports children, young people, their families and professionals and helps them come to terms with what has happened and how to deal with the uncertainty that the future may hold. We are the charity people turn to about childhood acquired brain injury.

Deaf EXperience Limited (DEX) is a charity which campaigns nationally to improve access to education, wellbeing and quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing young people. We support deaf young people across Yorkshire to meet other young deaf people and to share their experiences. We welcome young people with any level of deafness and all communication methods. We deliver a variety of events where deaf young people can have fun, learn something new and meet others! We have two different groups. The DEX Deaf Youth Hub (DDYH) is for 11 to 17 year old’s and the DEX Deaf Youth Council (DDYC) is for 17 to 30 year old’s. Interpreters are at all events to help everyone to chat and make friends! Do you work with deaf young people aged between 11 and 30? Are you based in Yorkshire? We can come to your school, college or organization to deliver a FREE outreach session to explain what we offer for deaf young people! We also offer Deaf Awareness training for organizations, companies, care homes and other youth facilities
