We champion children and young people’s right to have a say in decisions that affect their lives. We run a range of youth voice programmes and projects to enable children and young people to develop campaigns, participate in city wide ballots and youth voice summit and share their views and priorities with decision makers. We provide advice, guidance and training to staff to develop their skills and confidence in facilitating children, young people and parents/ carers involvement in decisions making processes. We work with different teams and services to ensure young people and parents/cares are actively involved in recruitment and selection of senior staff, commissioning services and developing city wide consultations.

Since 2009, Purple Patch Arts has existed to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and autistic people by providing innovative, inclusive, creative learning experiences for them and the professionals who support them. Our Lifelong Learning Programmes are for adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Our specialist staff use creative methods such as art, drama, music, movement and multi-sensory activity to make learning fun and accessible, exploring a wide range of different topics based on a yearly theme. We explore a wide range of different topics that engage and challenge, while working with participants to develop their confidence, independence, communication and social skills, and improve their mental and physical wellbeing. Through our Projects and Partnerships work, we regularly work with day services, supported living providers, libraries, Universities, schools and other organisations to deliver short term, funded projects that meet specific outcomes. Our current projects include Move On Up, a transitions project supporting and empowering young people as they transition into adult services; To Wander is to Adventure, a mindful walking project; and the Purple Research Group, where a group of Lifelong Learning participants are co-researching why people come to Purple Patch Arts with a PhD researcher from the University […]

I work with families who are navigating the SEND system and support them to break down the barriers that are often put in place by schools and LA’s. There is hardly ever a quick fix, it’s a journey like no other but my aim is to armour parents/carers with practical advice and the strength to carry on the fight. Currently funded support available through a Lottery Grant.

Flamingo Chicks provides inclusive ballet classes, giving children with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy ballet alongside their friends We are passionate about providing an inclusive, fun and rich dance experience for children, by translating a version of ballet that is accessible to all, regardless of disability. Our classes are great fun – a mixture of dance and drama with lots of sensory equipment, storytelling and characterisation with the aim of improving balance, co-ordination, social skills and confidence. We have all kinds of children in our classes including children who are visually impaired, those with autism, cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome or other complex needs and those without additional needs. We also support children with illnesses, such as those undergoing treatment for cancer. While the children explore movement their parents and carers benefit from a vital support network. We also have a large network of volunteers, who provide vital help either in our classes or by volunteering their services, such as costume makers, photographers and set designers. Our vision is a world where disabled people have the same range of opportunities, and a culture of integrated social and well-being activity, where everyone works together as equals.
