Please check the website for individual venue opening times and access information: https://museumsandcastles.wakefield.gov.uk/ Discover the inspiring places and people of our district. Get hands-on at our range of creative workshop. Find fun for all the family. Learn something new at our castle tours. Most of our events and activities are free or low-cost. Our three museums have Pick & Mix stations full of tactile tools and resources to support your visit. Each week we have dedicated relaxed openings at our three museum sites. These are usually quieter times to visit the museums: Pontefract Museum: Tuesdays, 2pm to 4pm Wakefield Museum: Thursdays, 4pm – 6.30pm Castleford Museum: 9.30am – 12noon During the school holidays we programme activities for families. Airedale & Wharfedale Autism Resource (AWARE) is a support group for families affected by autism. We produce a monthly newsletter, provide e-updates throughout the month and have a very active closed facebook group for members. We hold parents’ and carers’ meetings with knowledgeable speakers, regular socials including dads’ meet-ups and parent training courses. We also run lots of events for children, young people and their families including a weekly youth club; holiday play schemes; monthly cookery club and trip club for teenagers with autism; moving-on club for 18-25’s; residential short breaks for children 8-18 years and family residentials. We run our events in Airedale, Wharfedale and Bradford. We are open to any family whether their child has a formal diagnosis or not and from any area; however due to funding some of our services are only available to children from a particular authority. We ask families to join which is £15/year and this can be done on our website https://aware-uk.org

The Parent Carer service at Carers Leeds offers support to anyone caring for a child, up to the age of 19, with a disability, additional needs, or a long-term illness. We offer information, advice and signposting, as well as emotional support. We can offer emotional support either on a one-to-one basis, or through our monthly support groups. We can also help with applying for benefits, form filling, advocacy, and supporting families through other processes such as EHCPs or Early Help Plans. We can take referrals from professionals but people are also welcome to self-refer for our service. Below is a video by @CarersLeeds and @irwinmitchell on how to complete a DLA form. It takes people through how to complete a new claim form or renewal to ensure the best possible information is submitted to maximise chances of a successful claim. http://bit.ly/3ooowNq
