In celebration of World Down Syndrome Day (March 21st*) Oakwood Cinema are supporting Sunshine & Smiles to raise funds and build awareness. Oakwood Cinema will be donating all profits from their special screening of The Peanut Butter Falcon on March 26th. They will also be screening a short film called ‘S.A.M’ which stars CBeebies newcomer George Webster (who also works at our cafe 21 Co.!). It’ll be a fun night. *The 21st day of March (the 3rd month of the year) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. The workshops are held at our office in the Carlisle Business Centre, Carlisle Road, Bradford, BD8 8BD. They start at 10.30 am and finish at 1.30 pm, with a short break for lunch. We provide a pack of notes, drinks and biscuits, and a light snack. Based in Leeds, Phoenix Dance Theatre is one of the UK’s leading contemporary dance companies. Each year the professional company embarks on national tours, presenting dance productions to audiences throughout the UK and beyond. Phoenix Dance Theatre’s aim is to create dynamic, diverse and relevant work that embodies the company’s rich Caribbean history and shines a light on cultural narratives. Our Learning & Development department is committed to providing opportunities for all through provisions which range from Saturday School, Illuminate Dance programmes, Youth Academies, schools’ packages and performance led projects. Illuminate is our specialist dance provision for young people aged 6-25 with additional needs. Illuminate provides much needed access to dance for the young people of Leeds. Families are at the heart of Illuminate, it is built for and with the community, to meet key areas of need for the families we engage with. SNAPS.

SNAPS started in Leeds in March 2004 by a group of parents who had identified an unmet demand for hydrotherapy, swimming and physical activity experiences for children with additional needs. From that modest beginning, we have continued to grow. We now deliver a consistent support service to around 100 families each week, and continue to involve parents at all levels. SNAPS supports children with additional needs and their families through physiotherapy, leisure services and a supportive environment. These experiences can be life changing, helping the whole family relax and enjoy time together.     SNAPS offers a range of services, including: Hydrotherapy Swimming Rebound therapy Football Stay and play Other therapies including dance and yoga Holiday activities Family support Parent and carer groups Parent and carer wellbeing sessions   SNAPS is an inclusive organisation, involving the whole family, including siblings with no additional needs. LWCA is a charity, established since 1998 which exists to provide short breaks for children and young people with additional needs. There are 2 projects within Leeds Weekend Care Association.   Weekenders Club/Teen Scene: Is a play scheme operating from The Vinery Centre, 20 Vinery Terrace, East End Park, Leeds, LS9 9LU. We are open Saturdays, 47 weekends per year. Children and young people who attend Weekenders Club/Teen Scene can access the club once for 3hrs every four weeks. Our ½-day sessions are 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. or 1.30 p.m. to 4.30 pm. When a child is allocated a group, this group stays the same for each visit. Our staffing level is one staff member/volunteer to one child/young person. All of our staff are experienced and well trained and work alongside dedicated volunteers to enhance the service we provide.​ We provide drinks and snacks at each session, but you are welcome to bring your own.
