Dying Matters

Educational Public Speaking Event Workshop

Tuesday 2nd May 2023 – 9.45am – 3 pm Central Hall, Alice St, Keighley, BD21 3JD Positive conversations about Death and Dying with People with Learning Disabilities. Do you have a learning disability or support someone who does? Do you want to find out more about death and dying? Come to our free event – listen, chat, eat & drink and spend time having positive conversations about death and dying. Sunshine Youth Club – Bowling Trip

Family Fun Day

The next event for our Sunshine Youth Club will be a bowling trip to Hollywood Bowl, Kirkstall at 10:30am on Thursday 1st June. This event is for young people of high school age 11-18yrs. We have initially booked 15 places but more can be added. For this event young people must be supervised and supported by a parent or carer at all times. Sunshine & Smiles are funding the outing, and bookings can be made here through the normal booking system where voluntary donations can also be made. There are sleep seminars available for understanding and supporting children’s sleep for parents and carers of children with brain conditions.The sessions aim to: Build on your knowledge and understanding of sleep and what impacts/improves it. Increase your skills when addressing issues of settling, night waking, early rising and sleeping alone. Improve your confidence to apply information gained to your own situation. The Parents’ Forum for Bradford and Airedale (PFBA) is offering three more dates this half term for the EHCP workshops. These are 25 April, 2 May and 10 May. The workshops have a maximum of six parents in one session so it is a friendly, supportive environment, and there is plenty of time to discuss whatever issues you may be having in connection with your child’s EHCP. Spotlight on supported internships – a webinar for parents and carers of young people preparing for adult life

Educational Webinar Workshop

Thursday 18 May 10.30am – 12pm (on Teams) Join us to learn more about supported internships and how they can benefit a young person. This online event is particularly designed for parents, carers, and representatives from parent carer forums. During the webinar, we’ll hear personal experiences from past supported interns and employers, and see how they benefited from the internship. We’ll also hear from a government representative explaining how the government supports more young people with SEND into work. PhysCap.

PhysCap is a Yorkshire charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for children suffering from physical and learning disabilities. Run entirely by volunteers meaning every penny raised goes directly to those in need, PhysCap carry out fundraising events over the course of each year so as to be able to support families with children 18 years and under. PhysCap offers assistance to individual children as well as groups of children for example within schools by way of specialised and therapeutic equipment, residential breaks and play schemes and other practical aspects of daily living. PhysCap is happy to consider applications from children with or without diagnosis as long as it is supported by an Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist or alternative professional body. The Eden Dora Trust for children with Encephalitis was formed specifically to offer support to children and their families affected by Encephalitis and childhood Acquired Brain Injuries through support, information, education and research. We support children in hospital with Encephalitis and families after hospital discharge, advice on re-integration to school, different forms of rehabilitation, along with working on an Acquired Brain Injury schools award and much much more including raising awareness and funding research into the causes, diagnoses & treatments of Encephalitis/A.B.I; We hold study days & fund training workshops for families, teachers and health care professionals involved with the ongoing care and rehabilitation of children affected by Acquired brain injury and this life changing illness. Helping children and their families feel less isolated, different, misunderstood and alone.
