Leeds Mencap run week-long school holiday playschemes for children and young people with learning disabilities.
The playschemes are mostly about having fun, trying new experiences and activities and having time with friends. They also help children to maintain skills and confidence that can be affected over the long summer holiday break.
Over the course of the week children will get to enjoy a wide range of activities and games. They’ll be able to use the sensory and soft play rooms, cycle outside on the adapted bikes, have a go on the bouncy castle if the weather allows! They’ll have various sensory and messy play activities, play pool and air hockey, karaoke, discos, cook, talent shows, themed days – if the children or young people can think of it, the staff can support them to make it happen. We have visiting workshops – animals are always popular. Thursday is trip day and Doncaster Dome, Magna, Eureka and farms are firm favourites.
We have a Changing Places toilet and staff who undertake any training needed around feeding or personal care to make it possible for all children and young people to be included. We ask anyone new to the playscheme to come for a visit first so that we can get to know more about what your child needs to be able to come along safely and for you to understand how we will support your child and keep them safe.
The Essentials
The playschemes run at The Vinery Centre from 10:00-3:00pm
Bring a packed lunch, drink and any spare clothes, medicine and personal care supplies needed.
Costs for 2021 are £18 per day per child (There is an additional cost of £15 to cover the cost of the trip)
Payments need to be made in advance. Payments can be made by BACs or Faster Payments; by debit/credit card over the phone/in person or by cheque.
We run 8 weeks of playscheme each year during February and October half term holidays, the 2 week Easter holiday and 4 weeks during the summer holiday. The weeks are split between age groups and spread across the year. Age ranges are 4-8 years, 9-13 years and 14-18 years.
We take bookings for each playscheme 8 – 10 weeks before each playscheme
