Family Fun Day Meetup Webinar

We’re excited to announce the re-launch of the Sunshine & Smiles Siblings Group! The Sunshine & Smiles Siblings Group is a fun but safe space for siblings of those with Down syndrome. It’s also a space for young people to share their own experiences of being a sibling of a child with Down syndrome – the magical, the challenging and all the bits in between! Cricket for young people aged 12-25

Activity Day Meetup Sport

This will be the first of out fortnightly cricket sessions for young people aged 12 – 25, and will be held on 26th May at St Chad’s Cricket Club in Headingley. We have 10 places available for each session and we are aiming to have 3 or 4 support staff from Sunshine & Smiles so that young people can take part independently of parents and carers if we have sufficient support in place for the young people attending. Family Fun Day Sport

Swimming sessions for Sunshine Families  Sessions are 40 minutes long and we will run 2 sessions of 4 pods on a fortnightly basis. The 1st pod will run from 3.15pm to 3.55pm followed by 20 minutes between sessions, with the 2nd session being from 4.15pm to 4.55pm with 20 minutes to exit the baths. Each pod will be a 1/4 of the pool – 2 shallow end pods & 2 deep end pods (your child must be able to swim without arm bands or floats for the deep end pods) with a maximum of 6 people from the same family or support bubble in each pod. Toilet Training Workshops

Toilet training for all ages (face to face + zoom workshop), run by the Down syndrome Training and Support Service This will run over 3 Fridays starting 25th June, 10am to 12pm. Do you need help toilet training your child? Whether it be a young child just starting or an older child who still needs to develop skills towards independent toileting you are welcome to join us. Drop In Stay n Play

Sunbeams is our youngest group and is for any children from birth (or even before!) to 4 years along with their siblings, parents and carers. It is a lovely time for playing, chatting and sharing a cuppa with other familes. We always end the group with a time of singing and signing which is popular with the little ones. Leeds Mencap

Leeds Mencap is an independent charity providing specialist, practical, emotional and social support to over 600 children and young people with learning disabilities and their families across the city, each year. Our services include: Youth Club for 9-13 year olds and 14-18 year olds: Youth Clubs run on alternate Tuesdays for each age group. They offer children and young people with a learning disability a chance to meet new friends, to get involved in a variety of activities, and to have fun in an environment that is both welcoming and safe. Sibling Support Group: The Siblings Group (Sibs) provides a great place for young people who have a brother or sister with a learning disability to come together and have fun. As well as giving young people the chance to access information, these groups allow them to socialise and meet new friends, and to share their experience of having a brother and sister with a learning disability within a welcoming and supportive environment. We are an information, guidance and advice charity offering help and support across a wide range of issues that families encounter from Health, Education, Finances and Benefits, Family issues, equipment, grants, legal aspects etc. Our team of specialist trained experts that staff our help desk supporting families with queries at times of need ; and  we also have parent advisors that work in the regions supporting families with workshops, events, support groups etc.

Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service offers high quality, person centred, radical and innovative services to people experiencing mental health crisis. We are open when many other services are closed. We provide free, confidential, non-judgemental, non-directive, empathic and respectful support.We have services for adults and young people in Leeds, and West Yorkshire. SERVICES AVAILABLE IN LEEDS, WF3, WF10, BD4, & BD11: FOR YOUNG PEOPLE: Teen Connect Helpline Teen Connect is a helpline for 11-18 year-olds, up until their 19th birthday. We can offer up to an hour of support either by phone, text or online chat. Offering emotional support and someone to talk to. No referral process or threshold for support – if you want to talk we are here for you. We can also support parents/carers on Teen Connect.
